In what order should I source articles for document supply?
When searching for articles, there are a number of tools and sources that can be used to search. To make the best use of the NHS CLA Licence, please search in this order:
- Electronic journals available in your organisation via INCDocs. This includes open access articles.
- Electronic holdings available in other NHS organisations via INCDocs
- Print holdings available in your own organisation via PrintDOCs
- Print holdings from other NHS libraries in England and non-NHS libraries affiliated to the national ILDS scheme via PrintDOCs
- Free copyright fee paid (CFP) articles
- Costed copyright fee paid (CFP) articles if no NHS library can supply and the user needs to copy and share
- Subscription-based collaborative networks such as NULJ and PLCS
- Other local non-NHS collaborative networks
- LIS-MEDICAL-ILL mailing list
- Other costed article supply services
The order may vary according to local arrangements.
Remember the NHS CLA Licence Plus only applies to articles sourced from NHS libraries. Articles sourced from other libraries, or from NHS libraries if the journal is excluded from the NHS CLA Licence Plus, can only be supplied under UK copyright law and library privilege. This affects how many articles can be requested and what can be done with them upon receipt by the requestor.
ReprintsDesk (Article Galaxy)
Used for obtaining copyright fee paid articles. It may only be used for articles which cannot be sourced from an NHS library and where the user needs to be able to copy and share them.
Once the copyright fee has been paid, articles may be reused within the NHS. Any subsequent request will be free of charge.
