What is happening to EBSCOhost and what do I need to do as a user?
EBSCOhost is used by NHS staff and learners to search literature databases such as CINAHL and Medline.
The current version of EBSCOhost (classic) has remained largely unchanged for many years. The supplier (EBSCO) have prepared a new version to replace dated technology and build a platform for ongoing development.
The NHS in England has held off moving to the new version while additional development was completed to support the needs of healthcare users.
We anticipate that the NHS in England will move to the new EBSCOhost on the 14th July 2026.
EBSCO have provided a guide to searching the new EBSCOhost. Please note there will be further changes to the new EBSCOhost interface prior to our transition to it.
Do I need to do anything?
During the transition period from the old to the new interfaces, you can continue to save records to the Articles and Saved searches folders in your My Folder on EBSCOhost, and they will be transferred across when you next login. See the FAQs below for arrangements for other elements.
You may need to take action to retain any saved searches, records or alerts. If you do not use any of these features then no action is required. Your KLS Team will support you with questions around search functionality on the revised version of EBSCOhost once it is ready.
You will continue to login to EBSCOhost with your OpenAthens username and password (or Trust login where that applies).
There is no change to how you access EBSCOhost – existing web links will redirect you to the new version automatically.
