How do I read an article I found?
Modified on: Fri, 13 Jun 2025 16:38We recommend logging in with OpenAthens at the start of your session. This ensures the most seamless experience for accessing articles.
Please note that we use a tool called LibKey to improve our links this makes them more reliable and also adds links to Hybrid open access articles that are not found if you use the "Full text" limiter on the Hub.
Depending on the format of the search results you may see one or more access option:.
- A 'Get PDF' button - this takes you direct to the article in PDF format.
- A 'PDF Full Text' or 'HTML Full Text' button - these appear for some articles where the access is via the company that supplies the Hub software.
- An 'Access Item' button - this takes you to the full-text on the publisher's website. This displays if a link to a PDF can't be generated by LibKey or EBSCO.
- A 'View Complete Issue' button - this takes you to Browzine to see the article in the context of the rest of the journal issue it was published in.
- A 'Request this item' button - this launches a form pre-populated with the bibliographic details of the item - you need to fill in your contact details and click 'Submit'. You won't be prompted to authenticate with OpenAthens in order to complete the form.
- A 'WMER abstract' or similar - these are records in an NHS research repository. Where you have access to the full article via a library subscription or open access you will be presented with those links first.
- A "Retracted article" warning - this is a new feature coming to the Hub in summer 2025
