Custom placards

Custom placards are placards that appear at the top of search results when search terms entered match terminology you have specified. For example, if I enter ‘library opening times’ in the search bar on my Hub instance, I will return the following placard:

Please note that these are different to Custom Media Placards, which are the visual buttons that appear on your Hub instance’s homepage.

A total of 200 custom placards are available. We have allocated 58 of these to nationally defined resources as suggested by library staff.  These can be set in common as the same link is applicable for all users. The national set are:

You can request entries are added to your Hub profile via a Service Desk request. You will need to provide the following information:

• Custom placard heading e.g. Library Opening Hours
• Description e.g. The library is staffed between 8:30-17:00 Monday to Friday. 24/7 access for staff and students is available via swipe card.
• Link text e.g. Library Opening Hours
• Target URL
• Match terms* – note, the placard will only appear if there is an exact match with one of the terms – enter singular and plural terms if applicable.  You can enter up to 50 terms, e.g. for the Library Opening Hours example:

  3. Staffed hours
  4. Opening times
  5. Closing times
  6. Opening hours
  7. Closing hours
  8. Library open
  9. Library closed
  10. Library closing

[*Note that match terms need to be unique.  The national set is attached to this FAQ for your reference. If the same term is used multiple times across a few entries e.g. critical appraisal, then only the custom placard for the first match will appear. It will ignore the other entries - the entries in our list are annotated accordingly. We have an enhancement request in for up to 3 custom placards to display simultaneously if the same match term is used multiple times.]
